Excerpt:
Saturday, February 14th - Valentine's Day
12:27 a.m.
Birkwood Apartments
He stood on the fire escape, his back
flat against the building, and waited for the light to go off. His heart pounded
in his ears and his palms itched. His palms always itched when he was excited, though.
It was a mild annoyance for the pleasure he'd be sure to get. The light finally
went off and he slowly turned so that he stood in front of the sliding glass door
looking into the apartment.
There was a woman inside. She was
tall, with short bobbed hair, and very large breasts. They had to be fake, he thought
as he slid his hand down the front of his pants. No one had boobs that round or
nipples that large. He cupped his balls. The woman came out of the bathroom and
went into the kitchen, which he had a clear view of from where he stood. She wore
nothing but a pair of red, lacy panties. His cock grew in his hand. He used his
other hand to unzip his fly. The chilly night air made his dick shrink a bit as
he began to stroke himself into an orgasm.
The woman opened the refrigerator
and peered inside for several moments before shutting it and turning around. Her
nipples were erect. "Fuck yeah," he groaned, his vision blurring as his
seed spurted from the head of his cock.
Then the woman screamed.
12:36 a.m.
8941 Cortland Avenue
"Detective Markson. Go,"
he barked into the phone.
"Looks like our pervert is back,"
Captain Monroe said with a sardonic laugh.
Interview
What inspired you to write this book?
My publisher (Books to Go Now) put out a call for Valentine's
Day stories and I'd never written a holiday themed story before so I figured, why
not? I knew I didn't want to write a typical lovey-dovey story though. I asked myself,
"What is the most unromantic thing in the world?" A peeping tom! Of course
I needed a detective, his love interest, the voyeur, and a parade of victims. Then
I went to town and had fun with it.
Who has helped you the most in your career as an author?
There is no one person who has helped me the most, but rather
a whole group of people. My critique group, the CNY Creative Writers Café, has been
invaluable to me. Their insights have helped take my writing to the next level and
I know if it weren't for that talented group of writers I wouldn't be published
today. Then there is the CNY Romance Writers. The wealth of knowledge and support
they've given me has been great.
When you write, what things do you want close at hand? (Coffee,
water, chocolate... pictures of gorgeous hunks for inspiration...?)
Pepsi (not Coke), white cheddar cheese curls, and something chocolatey.
It's amazing I don't weigh forty-seven tons with the way I eat. Lol. I always have
YouTube ready to go should I need to find just the right song to set the scene.
And most importantly, I have the Fifty Shades of Sexy Facebook page for inspiration.
The pictures they post…whoa! It's very easy to get distracted by that page.
Are you a plotter, or do you prefer to make it up on the spur
of the moment?
I write completely by the seat of my pants. I feel like plotting
is too restrictive. I've tried to plot and it only causes me a lot of anxiety. I'm
the type of person that when I write it down it's set in stone, in my mind anyway.
So, when I get in the flow of writing a story and it takes off in a different direction
that I didn't plot out, I feel like the story is ruined. It's a whole big thing
that I try to avoid at all costs.
Any advice for new authors?
Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. It seems simple
enough, but it can be really hard at times, especially after your book is released.
It's very tempting to look at other books similar to yours, to read the hundreds
of five-star reviews other authors are getting, to obsessively check the best sellers
lists only to find your book missing from it. Don't. Do. It! Writing is very subjective.
Readers are very selective. Just because someone else's book is doing better than
yours doesn't mean your book is crap. It just means the other book was in the right
place at the right time and was read by the right person. Have faith in yourself,
your books, and your ability to succeed.
When an idea hits you, what do you do to capture it?
Whatever I can! I have notebooks and pens stashed everywhere—in
my purse, in my car, in the kitchen, next to my bed. When an idea hits, I stop what
I'm doing and jot it down. I have to, otherwise I'll forget it. I don't just jot
down ideas though. If I hear a name I like or a snippet of dialogue, I'll write
that down too. I've also been known to write an entire description before. For example,
I was at one of my daughter's cheerleading competitions, sitting up in the bleachers,
and there was this guy sitting a few spots away who kept bouncing his knee, which
shook the entire row. It was so annoying. I seriously had visions of leaning over
and stabbing him with my pen. Instead, I wrote it down. The guy's physical description,
the gym, the bleachers, and my reaction to everything. I have yet to use it in a
story, but it's there when I want to.
| Snowball |
What's the best gift you ever received?
My cat! His name is Snowball
and he's huge! He weighs over 22 pounds. My husband and I were watching a show on
Animal Planet called Too Cute, and they
had the most adorable long-haired white kittens. I kept telling my husband I wanted
a big white cat. So, a few days later he went to the local SPCA and adopted a white
cat for me!
What kind of music do you listen to while driving? Same question
when writing?
When I'm driving, I'm
a horrible channel surfer. I will continuously change stations to make sure that
something is always playing. I tend to favor country or anything from the 80s. If
my oldest daughter is in the car with me though, she'll put it on modern pop, which
drives me nuts because it always seems like she changes it and then a Justin Bieber
song comes on. UGH!
The music I listen to
while I'm writing depends on what I'm writing. The YA novel I'm working on is set
in the Deep South so it's country all the way.
I love Kenny Chesney and Luke Bryan. Mmm. Oh, sorry. Back to the music…I tend to
listen to a little bit of everything, except hardcore rap. That just gives me a
headache.
Are you the eldest, middle, baby, or only child?
I'm the dreaded only
child and I hated it! If I couldn't find a friend to hang out with I was left to
my own devices, which wasn't always a good thing. LOL. And the worst part was I
wasn't even spoiled. My parents didn't have a lot of money growing up, so I didn't
have all the cool electronics (which back then was the original Nintendo) to keep
me occupied. I was bored a lot. I think this is why I had five kids. I don't ever
want my own children to feel that loneliness I felt.
Please complete the sentence
I love pizza with extra cheese!
I'm always ready for bed.
When I'm alone, I sing along very loudly to country music.
You'd never be able to tell, but I've had five kids.
If I had a halo it would be hard
to put a shirt on over my head.
If I could meet anyone I'd meet Mark Wahlberg.
I can never go on a cruise because my husband is afraid
of boats.

Very fun interview! The premise of Valentine Voyeur sounds very intriguing. Your husband sounds like a great guy and your cat is adorable.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nona! Snowball is just one of my cats. I have two others. A sandy colored one, whose name is Sandy. (I know, real creative, huh?) And a black and white cat whose name is Mittens--she likes to sleep in my bathroom sink.
DeleteYes, my husband is pretty great =) Now if I could just get him on a boat...
Hi, Nona. :) Great to see you here. I love her cat story too. Sucker for kittens... that's me. =^_^=
DeleteGood morning, Kara! Does your cat mind water? I know some don't like to get their fur wet. I've seen pics of cats all curled up in sinks like they think it was a bed created just for them. So cute!
DeleteSnowball hates water. Mittens doesn't mind too much, but she just likes to be curled up any place she can fit. I found her curled up in her food bowl one time.
