I grew up in the Las Vegas area, in a suburb called Henderson. Nowadays you can't tell where one city stops and the other starts, but when I was a kid, there were long stretches of desert between the two. However, I came to tell you something very cool that I recently found out. There are more Catholic churches in Las Vegas than casinos.
I can't believe I lived there so many years and never knew this. I was quite surprised. I'll bet you are, too.
FACT: Las vegas churches accept gambling chips in the collection plates. Since they get chips from many different casinos, the churches have devised a method by which to efficiently collect the offerings. The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in. This is done by the chipmonks. See? I told you you'd be surprised.
