Recipe: Sweet Broccoli Salad | Taste of MFRW Summer Camp #RLFblog #MFRWcamp

Sweet Broccoli Salad
What is MFRW Summer Camp? Marketing for Romance Writers began as a Yahoo group of a dozen authors who wanted to know how to market their books. They shared information, and being the type who liked to talk, they told other writers. What began as a small group in 2006 numbers nearly 1800 today. One reason it grew so large is our training program. We hold frequent workshops, and they're always free. Yes, you read that right. This July 12-14 will be out second annual summer camp.

"Seek, teach, share, learn, succeed." That is our motto. Our group helps us focus on learning marketing and publicity. We seek ways to advance our careers, brainstorm new ventures and ideas, get feedback, and find others interested in working together. We provide free workshops. You can take a class or teach one.

We welcome marketing-related material that asks a question, offers a promo or idea, or is a request for help, advice, or opinions. We offer opportunities to promote and join others in promotional efforts. As fellow authors (published and not-yet), publishers, and other members of the literary community, we are your support group and co-workers. Need to buy pens, pins, or other goodies? Found a great place to do that? We hope you'll share the news.

We're open to the entire literary community. Our writing is not discussed; we focus on creating an image and using it effectively. We provide ways to learn new ideas, new skills, to gain new opportunities, and share them with others.

While promotions are not allowed on the Yahoo group, news about pitch sessions and calls for submission are. We coordinate pitch events with publishers for our members. On Facebook, we promote and share news. We link our blogs via a unique software "ribbon" in blog hops. We pin books by members on Pinterest, and show off our cover models. We share tweets on Twitter. You are welcome to join us at all our locations. We offer assistance to our members in every way we can. Why? Because we want you to succeed. When we help you grow, it helps us. Like the saying goes, what goes around comes around.

You can find more about us and summer camp here. We hope you'll join us!

And now, onto the recipe portion of our blog. We're taking turns sharing recipes and info about MFRW. Today is my turn, and I'm sharing my favorite summer salad.

Sweet Broccoli Salad

Salad Ingredients
1 head fresh broccoli, chopped into small, bite-size pieces
1/2 red bell pepper, sliced and chopped
3/4 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese
1/4 large red onion, chopped small
1/4 cup raisins
6 slices crisp bacon, crumbled
1/3 cup sunflower seeds
Dressing Ingredients
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon white sugar (or equivalent in sugar substitute)
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

In a large bowl, combine crumbled bacon, broccoli, cheese, bacon, onion, sunflower seeds, and raisins. Prepare the dressing in a small bowl by whisking together the red wine vinegar, sugar, pepper, salt, mayonnaise and lemon juice. Combine dressing with salad. Cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Hint: Save time by cooking bacon in microwave. Drain on paper towels.
