Mine to Keep by Denise Rossetti
Mine to Keep
by Denise Rossetti
Denise Rossetti author of Mine to Keep answers five easy questions to help readers get to know them better.

Author Bio

When Denise Rossetti was very small, she had an aunt who would tell her the most wonderful fairy tales all original. She grew up, as little girls do, but the magic of story still dazzles and enthralls her. In person, she's small and noisy and tends to wave her hands around a lot, which can be unfortunate if the tale she's telling happens to have explosions in it!
Reviewers describe Denise's books as "darkly intense, warmly romantic, and blazingly erotic". She's a proud recipient of the Australian Romance Readers Association award for Best Erotic Romance and a two time winner of the Passionate Plume award from Romance Writers of America.
What's your favorite down-home family style meal?
Anything my husband cooks. He does all the cooking (and shopping) – and no, you can't have him. Heh, heh. The poor man learned how to cook in self-defense not long after we were married and I've been grateful ever since. He does a fabulous lamb roast, the darling.
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
Anything I can't cook myself – which leaves the field wide open! I have such a shocking sweet tooth that I generally turn the menu over and start with the desserts. Seems only sensible to me!
Describe the perfect vacation.
I love learning cool new things. My idea of heaven is to be somewhere that's not only beautiful, but interesting, with tour guides telling me fascinating stuff, making everything come alive. Wonderful experiences every single day.
What are your hobbies?
Well, reading's a no-brainer. I'm also a knitter, have been since I was a kid. I'm currently obsessed with knitting socks and also with learning maths. I'm much better at one than the other – guess which!
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Would I Lie To You? (Eurythmics) Oh yeah, Peter totally would!

5 Easy Questions: Kayelle Allen author of A Romance for Christmas #RLFblog #HolidayRomance

A Romance for Christmas by Kayelle Allen
A Romance for Christmas
by Kayelle Allen
Kayelle Allen, author of A Romance for Christmas answers five easy questions to help readers get to know her better. Kayelle is a best-selling, multi-published, award-winning author. Her unstoppable heroes and heroines include contemporary every day folk, role-playing immortal gamers, futuristic covert agents, and warriors who purr.
Who is your "book boyfriend" (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
I have a real yen for Roarke, from JD Robb's In Death series. But don't let Lt. Eve Dallas know. *wink*
What's your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?
I have more than one. I (try to) keep up with #Loki and #Thranduil, and also #MFRWauthor #amreading and #ASMSG. I built a newsletter that combines the first two. Loki's Army Recruiters
What are your hobbies?
I've been collecting the In Death series by JD Robb (39 as of this date), and the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward. Hmm... I must have a thing for authors with J names and four-letter last names. Anyway, I challenged myself to find these books secoond hand rather than new. So I visit used book stores, Goodwill stores, and places like Second and Charles. I keep a list and cross them off as I go. Once I have all the books, it's only a matter of keeping up. And I'm scouting for new and prolific authors to watch. Suggestions welcome.
What kinds of things do you read when you're researching a new book?
I just bought two Astonomy magazines which I will read cover to cover. I also pick up Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, and similar magazines. They help me keep up with current technology. When you write science fiction you have to know what's new. Scifi is often an extrapolation built on the now. If we have this, what will it be used to do? The book I'm talking about this time is contemporary -- not scifi, but my primary writing is science fiction romance.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
The theme from Cops! "Bad boys, bad boys, what you gonna do? What you gonna do when they come for you?" Scott Gregori is one of his hometown's finest boys in blue.

For Friends of #RLFblog: A Thanksgiving Poem #ThanksgivingDay

A fitting poem about luck and being thankful, just in time for Thanksgiving Day. Thank you to each of you who make Romance Lives Forever a wonderful place to be all year long.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful, safe holiday.
-- Kayelle Allen

Thankful for Turkeys

(author unknown)
Week before Thanksgiving,
I limp around real strange.
Huddle in the corner,
As though I have the mange.
All the other turkeys,
Just gobble, gobble on.
I'm silent, and I act
As if my gobbler's gone.
Everyone is thankful
On Thanksgiving Day.
Friday it's forgotten.
You all go on your way.
I know what thankful is
So listen when I say.
"It's great to be a turkey,
After Thanksgiving Day."

Relieved to put the horrors of war behind him, Jim went home to his apple orchard and a quiet life with his wife and children. About the Character

Name: Cal Cunningham
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Birthplace: New York City
Profession: Former banker and newbie apple farmer
Ethnicity/Species (if not human): Caucasian
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Around 6 feet, 200 lbs. Lean and muscular. Dark eyes and dark, thick hair. Dimples.
Who is the significant other in your character's life?
Best friend Jim Bennett is definitely Cal's significant other, but their relationship has always been platonic, much to Cal's anguish.
How does your hero dress?
He's in a WWII Marine uniform in the flashbacks to the war, and at the orchard he wears jeans or khakis with button-front work shirts or T-shirts.
How educated is this character? Is he book smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
Cal is a Princeton grad, and is very intelligent. He could have easily had an officer's commission in the war, but joined the Marines to rebel against his father.

He's very wealthy, but is content living a simple life at the orchard with Jim.
What special skills does your character rely on?
Probably his people skills. Cal's charismatic and funny, and is a smooth talker.

Does he have children?
No, and when Cal moves to the orchard to help Jim, he has no experience dealing with children. Eight-year-old Sophie isn't as easily charmed by Cal as most people, and he has to learn how to deal with the complexity of kids.
Can your hero keep a secret? If not, why not? If yes, why?
Definitely! He's kept his deep love and attraction for Jim secret since their days at boot camp.

Graffiti: Art or Vandalism? Naomi Bellina author of Don't Say No #RLFblog #graffiti

Don't Say No
I read a book some time ago that featured taggers, or graffiti artists. I found the subject fascinating and had to do more research. According to an article at the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing, there are four major types of graffiti, all problematic and some gang related. Then there are other articles like this one at Smashing Magazine, that portray graffiti as art. Check out the examples they show here, or these by female street artists. I wouldn't mind having some of this artwork on the building at my business.
If I did decide to decorate the outside of my shop, how would I go about finding a graffiti artist? An Internet search brought up a Facebook page, a Tumblr page, and many more sites all over the world. Not too many in my area, but I'm sure I could hunt one down, possibly listing themselves as a mural artist.
Beautiful as it is, sometimes the pictures are done without permission. In Don't Say No, unwelcome graffiti is painted all over the outside of a spa on grand opening day. Curse words, not beautiful pictures. My hero and heroine come up with a creative solution to solve the problem.
Have you ever seen graffiti that you'd like painted on your walls? Thanks so much for reading.

About the Book

Mixing business with pleasure has never been so much fun
Amber's life sucks. Her ex got her thrown out of college, then fired from her job. When she's hired for a mystery shopping assignment, she hopes this is exactly what she needs to kick-start her life and get her back on track.
Jaeger is all business when he hires Amber to check out the spa he's purchasing. If she can help him prove that the venture will be a success, then he can build his own future, not the one his family has mapped out for him. Becoming attracted to his sexy spy isn't part of the plan.
Amber can't see how she fits into Jaeger's world, and he's too uptight to ever fit into hers. Circumstances bring them together, in bed and out, but when a secret from his upper-class life is revealed, Amber must decide if she can trust him. Or is her life going down in flames all over again?

Character Interview Joe from Princess of the Light @NNP_W_Light #RLFblog #UrbanFantasy

Princess of the Light
Princess of the Light
Please welcome author NN Light, who also happens to be a personal friend, and one of the editors for my business, The Author's Secret. Her book, Princess of the Light is helping people everywhere learn how to share food and to open their lives to help others. This post is a special character interview with Joe Deacons.

About the Book

Title Princess of the Light
Genre Urban Fantasy Romance
Author N. N. Light
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Gabriel, the Archangel and Messenger of God - yeah that Gabriel, visited Mary Miller. He told her, as the key she is destined to spread the Light and vanquish the Darkness. Her first assignment is to restore the soul of the Walking Man. Sounds simple enough until she's thrown in the face of evil, and then Joe Deacons enters her heart. This battle just got a lot more complicated. She must complete her mission without losing all she loves.

Interview with Joe Deacons

Tell us about yourself, please.
My name is Joe Deacons and it's a pleasure to be here. I'm a little out of my element here but the author assured me this was all for the good of the story, calling me every woman's book boyfriend…whatever that means. Anyway, I am an urban planner for the city of Golden Lake. Oh and I am in love with Mary, the Princess of the Light.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
Believing in what I can't see or logically explain causes me great difficulty. Take Mary, for example. One day she tells me she is the Princess of the Light and knowing her as an honest person, I had no choice but to believe her. She is a faithful person and it wasn't until I saw a demon for the first time that I truly believed. Sometimes I am still amazed that she chose me to love… or maybe it was just meant to be.
What's your external complication? In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.
Losing Mary, either to death or to Than. Than is a big bad demon, second in command to Lucifer, and I see lust in his eyes when he spars with Mary. It makes my blood boil and I want to run a sword through him.
Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Mary is the most beautiful woman in the world and every day, I thank God for her. She brings such beauty to my life and loves me for me, not my parents' money. She tells me the truth and keeps me honest. She is brave, braver than me, and she makes me laugh. She's strong but she shows me her insecurities too. I'm a better man because of her and I love her so much.
What would that person say about you?
She would say I'm being modest and too reserved in this interview and that I'm her warrior and her strength. She boasts I'm her protector and I like that. What man doesn't want to protect those he loves? She would also say I have a heart of gold and I'm not afraid of anything.
What is your family like?
My father is the king of decorum and he believes in preserving the Deacons name, at all costs. My mother is a generous loving soul who could outdo Martha Stewart in a hostess contest. She has always been there for me and I love her dearly. My younger brother, Edward, is a historian and theologian. He is more like my father and that is fine by me.
If someone from your past showed up, who would you NOT want it to be, and why?
This actually happened to me in the book. A few years ago, a gold-digger named Leslie convinced me to marry her. She pretended to love me and I loved her. Two days before the wedding, she dumped me for another man. I was heartbroken and I vowed to never let another woman get close again.
Then Mary came into my life and the walls around my heart melted. I was happily in love and then BAM! Leslie shows up when least expected. For more, you have to read Princess of the Light.
Are you happy with the way your story ended? Why or why not?
Yes, I'm happy with how my story ended. There are a few surprises along the way and I can't wait for the next story. I keep nudging the author to have me more involved in the story but she refuses to listen to me.

About the Writer

You have the length of a tweet (140 characters) to describe yourself as a writer. Let's see what you can do.
I'm a storyteller who loves to write stories filled with high stakes, emotionally-charged conflict, earth-shaking romance and big bads.
Why did you choose to write about this character?
I chose to write about Joe because I thought the world needed a hero who was strong yet willing to let the woman he loves be front and center. Love is not dead and neither is chivalry. He is Mary's partner, lover and warrior.
Was there anything you discovered about this character that was a surprise to you?
I was surprised how caring he was. Even with all that was going on in the various battle scenes, his first reaction is to make sure people are okay.
Why do you write?
I write because I'm a storyteller. I have been blessed with the gift of writing ever since I was a little girl. I have all these stories that need to be told swirling in my head. I just have to get them down on paper. Finding time to write is the hardest part of being a writer.
What do you want to write next?
I'm in the process of writing book two in the Princess of the Light series. I also have a mystery swirling around that my muse insists is next to be published.
What other character from this book do you want to write about? Care to tell us why?
I'd love to write more about Than. He is a demon from way back and in fact, used to be an angel. In Heaven, he was the Virgin Mary's Protector. But that was before the Rebellion. Now, he's Lucifer's second in command and he's a key player in the battle of good versus evil.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
Yes, I have currently five more books planned in the Princess of the Light series.

5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick, easy, and fun. Today's guest is Kelley Heckart.

What is your favorite quote?
"Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself." Leo Tolstoy
What was your favorite book as a child?
I started reading at age 4 so I don't remember what I liked then, but I do remember when I was a little older I liked the Nancy Drew series. I do remember a favorite book as a pre-teen: Where the Red Fern Grows. I also liked The Outsiders.
What was the last movie you watched (home or theater)?
Divergent. I liked it because there was a strong female heroine who wasn't afraid to fight back.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
My latest hero is a centaur shifter so I guess it would be a song about horses. Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones would be his ringtone. I love that song.

He took an oath too protect, honor, and uphold the law, but can he defy the lust, riches, and power offered, or are the 'dark forces' stronger than his will?

Excerpt (from "3381 Market Street")

Leaning back against the side of the pool, Katherine stretched her long legs before closing her eyes. Suddenly, someone shoved her beneath the surface and held her there by her hair. Unable to breath, she scratched frantically at her foe's arm until her attacker released her. Popping up from her watery grave, she gasped for air, her eyes stinging from the chlorine. Temporarily blind, an alert staff member pulled her from the pool. Choking, and spitting water, she said, "Someone tried to drown me."
Looking about, the employee said, "Miss, there's no one else here."
"What about the mother and daughter I talked to?"
"What mother and daughter? The only other women here are with a group of senior citizens. They meet here every week for water exercises. It helps their arthritis."
"Where's Officer Schumacher? I'm leaving now," she said, stomping to her room.
Once inside her suite, she telephone Greg, but got his answering machine instead. Believing Jessie was behind the attack, she grabbed her suitcase and frantically packed. That was not to be. Elaine Moser tackled her from behind out of the closet, and began to strangle her. Unable to release Elaine's grip, Katherine ripped a button from her swimsuit. Using it as a weapon, she sliced Elaine's face with one hand, and followed with a hard-fisted, round-house punch with the other.
Frantic and breathing heavily, Katherine ran to the door, but found it double bolted. Suddenly, a knife flew at her and stuck in the door, narrowly missing her head. She turned on her heel and ran onto the balcony, screaming for help. Yanking the knife out of the door, Elaine charged at her a second time. Katherine leaped aside and Elaine plummeted over the railing, falling three stories.

5 Easy Questions: JM Stewart author of Risking It All @JMStewartWriter #RLFblog #Contemporary

Risking It All
5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick, easy, and fun. Today's guest is JM Stewart.

What is your go-to meal to order when you dine out? Your favorite "I know it will hit the spot" item.
Well, I had my gallbladder out a year ago and have since had to start eating healthier (aka boring. Lol). Low fat, low carb, gluten free. So right now, my favorite "dine out" meal would be a good grilled chicken salad. My favorite is the naked grilled chicken salad at Q-Doba. Before though? I didn't really have one. I like variety. But usually anything with chicken and pasta. Though I am fond a good teriyaki. Depends on my mood.
What were you like when you were in school?
Oh geez. I was that quiet girl in the back of the class trying not to be noticed. lol Not a geek, but definitely not popular either. I was a "band fag" (pardon the term; it's what we called ourselves) in high school. lol
Would you rather stay inside and watch snow falling, or get out in it and build a snowman?
Get out in it and build a snowman for sure. I don't like being cold, but when it snows, I'm still a kid at heart. I want to get out my gloves and boots and go throw snowballs. lol
What is your favorite quote?
From Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. It's a favorite because I can relate to him in this moment.
"Ye know the fortress I told ye of, the one inside me?"
"I remember."
He smiled without opening his eyes, and reached out a hand for me.
"Well, I've a lean-to built, at least. And a roof to keep out the rain."
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Something that would make people laugh when they heard it. Kyle's kind of a goofball. He's a great big kid at heart. Like that "Kung Foo Fighting" song, just because you couldn't help but laugh (at least, I couldn't) when it went off in a public place.
