Marilyn Baron Author of The Widows' Gallery @MarilynBaron #RLFblog #mystery

The Widows' Gallery
Today's authbor interview is with Marilyn Baron.

Why did you write this book?
I love using art and art theft as themes in my books. I studied art history in Florence, Italy, in college where I fell in love with my favorite painting—The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli—which hangs in the Uffizi Gallery. So I decided to make that painting the centerpiece of my story. The cover art is also reminiscent of that painting. Last year, my husband and I took an anniversary cruise to the Mediterranean. All these things gelled and I decided to set part of my book in Florence, Italy, and on a cruise ship, before the main characters arrived in Lobster Cove, Maine, where the Lobster Cove series for The Wild Rose Press is set.
What are your favorite genres to read?
Literary fiction, women's fiction and thrillers
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Jamie Fraser in the Outlander series.
What are you working on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
On March 20, Killer Cruise, the third book in my Psychic Crystal Mystery Series, will be released from The Wild Rose Press. It also takes place on a cruise ship and one of the themes is art theft. It's murder, mystery, and mayhem combined with high jinks on the high seas. The novel even features a vampire.
TWB Press just released my fifth dark and humorous supernatural short story, The Files Death Forgot http://www.twbpress.com/thefilesdeathforgot.html The Grim Reaper with a failing memory, a craving for chocolate chip cookies and a penchant for old movies: Could this agent of death inadvertently save the world from mass annihilation??M
My current work in progress is called Landlocked, where an inexperienced South Florida realtor with weather issues, tries to sell her widowed grandmother's rural property on an isolated Western North Carolina mountaintop only to discover the tract is landlocked, and therefore, unsalable. The book features a missing artist, two romances and a serial killer.

5 Easy Questions: Ines Johnson Pleasure Hound @ineswrites #RLFblog #erotic

The Pleasure Hound
Ines Johnson author of The Pleasure Hound (Part One) answers five easy questions to help readers get to know her better.

Author Bio

Ines writes books for strong women who suck at love. If you rocked out to the twisted triangle of Jem, Jericha, and Rio as a girl; if you were slayed by vampires with souls alongside Buffy; if you need your scandalous fix from Olivia Pope each week, then you’ll love her books!
Aside from being a writer, professional reader, and teacher, Ines is a very bad Buddhist. She sits in sangha each week, and while others are meditating and getting their zen on, she’s contemplating how to use the teachings to strengthen her plots and character motivations. Ines lives outside Washington, DC with her two little sidekicks who are growing up way too fast.

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
Fish and chips. It's really hard to mess up.

Who is your "book boyfriend" (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
I have the biggest book boner on Kristin Cashore's Po from "Graceling." He's a gentle warrior. I love the interplay of those polar opposites.

What's your favorite hashtag to watch on Twitter?
#amwriting

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
I loved my Jem and The Hologram's pink Roll's Royce. I'm beyond psyched that the live action film is coming to theaters soon.

What are your hobbies?
If I'm not reading, I'm hiking. Reading transports my mind to another place. Hiking transports my body to another place.

This quick interview includes info about the author, and introduces the story. Join the author's Facebook party on Feb 21st for fun and giveaways.

What happens when a sheltered cat-shifter and a dark fey come together?
Three-hundred years is a long time, but left to its own devices, what began as the vendetta of one man can grow to encompass even more formidable hatred.
Daitre Salons is a beautiful but naïve heiress whose true heritage has been kept secret even from her. Now, her abilities are emerging and her father's enemies want her dead, but what bothers her most is that her new husband "in name only" insists on treating her like a child.
Joban Beaucoup, professional guard to the Salons family, and dark fey (alternate spelling from Vodouin origin), has chosen to leave the quaint yet suffocating French town of his orphan-childhood and venture to the Americas, but he needs one thing he cannot concoct, despite his magical abilities: a wife.
When Joban agrees to marry Daitre and take her to the Americas with him, he carries her three-thousand miles away, then whisks her three-hundred years into the future to assure her safety, but while Daitre struggles to adjust to this strange new world, manage her newfound powers, and make peace with her feelings for Joban, Joban learns that even here, their enemies have followed them, now more deadly than ever.

Character Interview: Dawn - Reborn to Burn @TheAnnaDurand #RLFblog #PNR

Reborn to Burn
by Anna Durand
The character interview allows a hero or heroine to tell readers about himself or herself. Today's interview is with Dawn from Reborn to Burn.

Interview with Dawn

Tell us about yourself, please.
Until yesterday, I was a mummy who died 3,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. Scientists regenerated my body, though nobody knows how or why I woke up. Since I have no memories of my previous life, I let my hero Jake name me. He chose Dawn, because the Egyptians believed the dawn was a time of rebirth.
What can you not do (but need to do) during this story?
I need to remember my first life, understand why I was reborn, and escape from the scientists who are hunting me.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
I feel I shouldn't be alive; I'm an abomination, a freak with DNA from frogs and microscopic creatures. Am I truly human again, or something more sinister? The question haunts me.
In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most and why.
I worry I'll turn into a zombie or some other unnatural monster. Jake says that's ridiculous, but who knows? Hey, I'm a resurrected mummy girl, so anything seems possible.
Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Thaat would be Jake Maxwell, the man who helped me break out of Redeo Biotech. He claims he's just a grad student, but I suspect he's a secret agent or maybe a superhero in hiding, given his talent for outsmarting the bad guys. He doesn't see a monster when he looks at me, just a woman — and he awakens desires in me I never imagined existed.
What would that person say about you?
Jake says I'm a woman, not a thing. He calls me beautiful, sexy, and wonderful — and more importantly, he makes me feel that way.

About the Writer

I'm an award-winning writer, a reader, a freelance librarian, and an audiobook addict. I specialize in sexy, suspenseful paranormal romances.
Why did you choose this character for the interview today?
Reborn to Burn, and whole Reborn series, is all about Dawn's journey. Jake undergoes a transformation, too, but the stories revolve around Dawn's literal rebirth and the questions swirling around her origins and nature. She is a mystery — a woman with no memory, no name (until Jake christens her Dawn), and no explanation for her awakening.
When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
I uncovered a shocking secret about Dawn and what rebirth has done to her, but I wouldn't want to spoil the big surprise! I also learned she's willing to sacrifice herself to save Jake, which surprised Dawn, too.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
Yes. Reborn to Burn is the second book in the Reborn series, with Reborn to Die as the first one. The third installment, Reborn to Avenge, will be published later this year.
What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven't tried yet?
I'd love to try historical romance and urban fantasy. I read voraciously, and those are two of my favorite genres — after paranormal romance, of course!

About the Book

Title Reborn to Burn
Genre Paranormal romance

Ley Lines: Ruled by the Moon @TheGoddessNaomi #RLFblog #PNR

Ruled by the Moon
by Naomi Bellina
By Naomi Bellina
I'm minutes away from hopping on a plane leaving St. Louis Missouri. I've been visiting my mom and sister and I'm waaaaaay past ready to go home. For one thing, I'm freezing my butt off! Time to get back to Florida. I grew up in St. Louis and I knew without a doubt, it was not the place I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now before you St. Louis dwellers start blasting me for picking on your city, let me say, there are many wonderful features of this area. Fans love and support their sport teams, for sure. St. Louis offers a wide variety of good food and entertainment, a fantastic highway system, nearby wineries to make you drool and the most beautiful autumns you'll ever see.
But not for me. I longed for something more in whatever place I lived. I can't describe what that something was, but knew I'd recognize it when I felt it. In Ruled by the Moon, magical people such as witches and werewolves are drawn to Nocturne because of powerful ley lines that run through the area. I've always been fascinated with ley lines so I did some research and found they could very well be running through my fictitious Midwestern United States town. Check out this Google page for some great maps of ley lines. They're everywhere! According to Wikipedia, ley lines are "...supposed alignments of numerous places of geographical and historical interest, such as ancient monuments and megaliths, natural ridge-tops and water-fords." I believe they're spots that contain certain kinds of power.
On this visit to St. Louis, I checked in to see if I could feel energy from that strong line running through Missouri. Nope. At least not anything I could pick up. Or maybe, the energy that flowed was exactly what I found unpleasant. Maybe it affected me on some level I wasn't even aware of. I live in Florida now and though there are many qualities I love about this state (it's soooooo much better to be here in February), it's still not quite my perfect home. I've always been drawn to mountains and after a recent visit to Taos, New Mexico, would love to explore that area. Maybe one day.
How about you? Do you have a place that resonates with your soul? Thank you so much for visiting today.

A psychic vet, a secretive werewolf, a menace stalking the shifters. Welcome to Nocturne.
Dylan is a werewolf with a problem. He shifts at the new moon as well as at the full moon. He was born a werewolf, not made like most shape-changers and due to these unique traits he's avoided joining a pack and has given up hope of having a normal life. Morgan is a veterinarian, ready to be on her own for a good long time after leaving a cheating, spineless husband. She has a plan for her life that doesn't include a bossy, furry man.
Both are drawn to Nocturne, a town filled with magic due to a strong convergence of ley lines in the area. Morgan and Dylan recognize a connection when they meet, but neither one is looking for romance. After a harrowing encounter with a panther shape-shifter, they must combine forces and work together to uncover a menace that threatens the town. If they can learn to trust each other and let their guard down, they have a chance to solve the mystery and open the door to love.

Call Me Valentino @jordankrose @authorjamie @oliviagaines #RLFblog

Call Me Valentino
The Call Me Valentino anthology brings five authors together with the same assignment: Write a story about Valentino, who is in his early 30s, dark hair, blue/gray eyes and his primary objective (or so he thinks) is to find his baby brother.
Well, off we each went to write our Valentino's story with no idea of anyone else's vision of him. We're thrilled to unveil Valentino set in 5 different worlds. We're certain there's at least one Valentino for everyone!

The Matron by Kirsten Osbourne

Tino Hayes is a man with a mission. He is so dead-set on finding his brother that he almost loses the love of his life. It's a long journey for him and not just the road he's traveling with a bus full of fifteen orphans. He grows in a lot of ways throughout the story and finally is able to settle down with his dream woman.

Valentino "Vin" Jackson from Underdcovers by Jamie Lee Scott

Vin has been on one mission from the time he was first put into the foster system, find his little brother. As a kid, he couldn't get any information, but now he's an adult, and trying to make up for lost time. He thought the best way to do this was to get an education and become a member of one of the country's most connected crime fighting groups, the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Even though much of his time is spent doing the job he was paid to do, he spends considerable time outside the job using the FBI's resources, looking for ways to track him down. In his single-minded endeavor, he's forsaken any permanent relationships. On his nights of prowling, he often finds himself depressed, and going home with a woman whose name he doesn't even remember the next day.
As Vin ages, now in his third decade, he's tired of going it alone, but hasn't found a woman he'd care to settle down with. Or a woman he'd even share his story with. Until he's teamed up with Ellis Boyd. She just may be his undoing, but in the long run, she also has resources of her own, and a mind that could help him track his brother down. He needs to know, did little Teto have a good life? Is he okay? If not, he'll never forgive himself for letting the adults separate them.

The Brute and The Blogger by Olivia Gaines

Tino Boehner is a self-made man who has worked hard to get everything he has but he is the type of guy who wants a woman to challenge him. He has that in Ebony Miller. I wanted to write an interracial story about a man who has lost something that he is trying to reclaim – an identity. In the process he has a five year symbiotic relationship with Ebony through her blog that fuels and lights a fire under him, although they have never officially met in person. When they do meet, there are more than just sparks in her words on a screen; the ones that come out of her mouth are equally as powerful. He gives as good as he gets and the banter between the two is fiery, and clever.
The story is sexy as the two dance about each other as she finds out that there is a whole lot more to Tino Boehner.
Tino, through manipulating the circumstance, finds a way to spend more time with Ebony on a day to day basis and realizes her words have more power over him than he imagined.
I know readers will relate to them both as Ebony finds her true voice and Tino finds a deeper meaning in what family truly means to him. The Brute and the Blogger is the intro to a much larger story about the Boehner's which is completed in the follow up story A Menu for Loving.

Highlander, The Archer by Hildie McQueen

Two ideas at once came to mind when penning Highlander, Valent. First he was to be rather broken and secondly, why not an archer since this is a Valentines Day anthology and the whole cupid thing.
Valent is a breathtakingly stunning man with more hang-ups than a walk-in closet. After being abandoned as a child and then continuously mistreated while growing up by the clan, he has a rather hard time of it. When the laird's daughter Ariana falls head over heels in love with him and seduces him, it's surprising to see how different he is when in the privacy of the bedroom. The natural born leader takes charge. I hope readers will relate with this resilient hero and he earns a piece of their hearts.
Valent's story will continue in two additional parts, which will be published separately. Highlander - The Archer is the beginning of a new series.

The Vampire's Penance by Jordan K. Rose

When deciding who my Valentino was I knew right away he was a member of The Vampire Guard, a group driven to protect the residents of Central City in the aftermath of the Panthera Laboratories fire. I also knew Rafe Valentino was holding onto something so painful, so horrible that he had shut himself away from having relationships with anyone other than his brother.
In an effort to stop his brother from ending up dead Rafe finds himself in the weakest position he's ever experienced, which forces him to let down his guard and allow someone else to care for him. In spite of his circumstance he tries to protect those around him, sheltering them from his savageness, this time by forcing Maddie Van Kool to see the truth of what he's done.
The Vampire's Penance is Novella 5 in the Romance In Central City Series.

Character Sketch: Julia, One More Second Chance @JanaRichards_ #RLFblog

One More Second Chance
by Jana Richards
Message from author Jana Richards:
Today I'm here at Romance Lives Forever with Julia Stewart from my new contemporary romance release. Before we talk to Julia, here's the blurb from One More Second Chance, which is part of the Lobster Cove series from The Wild Rose Press.

Dr. Alex Campbell has an agenda--finish his contract to provide medical services in Maine, pay off his medical school debt, and head back to his real life in San Diego. But when he meets Julia, all his carefully laid plans are put in jeopardy.
Julia Stewart, Lobster Cove's high school principal, swears she'll never let another man drag her away from the home she loves. Her aging parents need her, and the Cove is where she wants to raise her daughter. When her mother's illness brings her and the big city doctor closer together, panic sets in. Her marriage taught her men don't stay.
Can she put aside the heartaches of the past and trust Alex enough to accept the love he's offering? Or will her fear of abandonment mean she'll send him away forever?

Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I'm from a small town in Maine called Lobster Cove. The Cove is located on Mount Desert Island, just down the road from Bar Harbor. I love this town. I love the people here, I love the ocean, and I love my family. Lobster Cove is a beautiful place to call home and I never want to leave.
But you did leave at one point, right?
Yes. My ex-husband and I spent a few years teaching in Thailand. Russ loved it there, but I was homesick a lot of the time. When I got pregnant, I wanted to come home and give birth to my daughter in the States. Russ was never happy back in Lobster Cove, especially when I got the job as principal of the high school, and essentially became his boss. When Ava was about three he demanded that we go back to Thailand.
Why didn't you go?
I was going to. I was afraid if I didn't our marriage would be over. But in the end it didn't matter. Russ went on ahead to find us a place to live. A few days later I got a call from him. He told me he didn't want me to come. He didn't love me anymore.
That must have been very painful for you.
It was, but with help from my parents and my friends, I got through it. And Ava helped me, too. I had to be strong for her. She's the joy of my life, and I intend on raising her here in Lobster Cove.
How old is Ava?
(smiling) She just turned six the other day. We had seven six-year-old girls at her birthday party. My ears are still ringing from all the excitement.
(smiling) I remember those days. So you're a teacher?
Yes. I'm presently the principal of Lobster Cove High School.
Do you like being a principal?
I do. I love the kids, and I love teaching, though these days I'm more of an administrator than a teacher. Sometimes I miss being in the classroom. But as principal, I have the opportunity to really make a difference in my students' lives. But affecting change can be difficult. As much as I love Lobster Cove, people can be pretty set in their ways here.
Let's get to the juicy bits. Tell me about your relationship with Alex Campbell.
(shifts uncomfortably in her chair) There's nothing to tell. I don't have a relationship with him. Not really.
I don't believe that and I don't think you do either. Tell me about your first meeting.
I thought he was an arrogant jerk when I first met him. Alex is a doctor, and when I took Ava to the ER with a broken arm, he accused my mother of abusing her!
And then?
(Sighs) Then we discovered what was really going on with my parents. Alex has been very supportive.
Not to mention easy on the eyes.
(sits up straighter) It doesn't matter how handsome he is, or how beautiful his eyes are, or even how compassionate he is. When his contract with the Island Health Board is up, he'll be leaving Lobster Cove. End of story.
It doesn't have to be the end. You could go with him.
(shakes her head) No, I couldn't. Even if our relationship was at that stage, which it's not, I'm never leaving Lobster Cove again. My life is here, and so are my responsibilities.
But what if he stayed?
He's not going to do that. There's nothing in a small town like Lobster Cove to entice a big city doctor like Alex.
Nothing but you. Maybe you could ask him to stay.
(turns away) If he stayed because I asked him to, he'd only grow to resent me. It's better this way.
Better for who? Not for Ava. She adores Alex and she needs a father. And not for you. If you don't tell him how much you care for him, he's going to walk away. Is that what you want?
(gets to her feet) This interview is over.
Don't let your chance for love slip away, Julia.
(Julia hurries away.)
(calls after her) Don't lose him because you're scared. Ask him to stay!

They drank their tea in silence, but the silence didn't feel awkward. Julia felt soothed, the stress slowly leaving her body. Perhaps her grandmother had been onto something. The tea seemed to be working.
She finished the last of it and set down the cup. "I should be going. I left Ava with Tracy, and she's probably hungry by now."
Julia got to her feet and headed to the front door, with Alex following her. "Thanks for the tea, and for listening. I guess I needed both today."
"Anytime. Seriously, Julia, anytime you need to talk, about anything, give me a call."
She wondered if he was speaking as a doctor, as a friend, or as a man. Which one did she want him to be?
"Thank you."
"I'll try to keep an eye out for your folks, see if there's anything I can do for them."
She was touched by his offer. "I really appreciate that, but I know how busy you are."
He waved away her concern. "It's no big deal. I appreciate my grandmother's neighbors checking in on her, and I'd be happy to do the same."
He really did understand how she felt. "In that case, thank you."
She opened the front door and stepped outside. Turning to Alex, she smiled. His thick hair had begun to dry, and the dark strands gleamed in the spring sunshine. Her breath caught in her throat at his beauty.
"Bye, Alex."
"Bye. Take care."
Julia hurried down the steps and across the lawn to her car. An appreciation for his looks was as far she could take any relationship with him. Her life was too complicated, too full already. And she would never get involved with a man who planned to leave Lobster Cove in only a few more months.

About the Author

When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a happily ever after. She also knew she'd found what she was meant to do. Since then she's never met a romance genre she didn't like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in lengths ranging from short story to full length novel. Just for fun, she throws in generous helpings of humor, and the occasional dash of the paranormal. Her paranormal romantic suspense "Seeing Things" was a 2008 EPPIE finalist.
In her life away from writing, Jana is an accountant/admin assistant, a mother to two grown daughters, and a wife to her husband Warren. She enjoys golf, yoga, movies, concerts, travel and reading, not necessarily in that order. She and her husband live in Winnipeg, Canada with their Pug/Terrier cross Lou and several unnamed goldfish. She loves to hear from readers and can be reached through her website at www.janarichards.com
