Unfortunately, Wystan, Eban and Tell rarely see everything eye-to-eye. Despite their shared demon blood and mission, they all have different thoughts about the way demons should be slayed, how the town they live in should be run, and whether or not everything will ever be normal in their lives again.
Setting up that kind of tension between them is fun. In Wystan (Book 1), when Rhia Duke comes to town, there's a rivalry between Eban and Wystan for her hand. Eban wants her and Wystan wants to pretend he doesn't. In Eban (Book 2), things take a turn for the worse when Eban begins to believe not only is Wystan against him, but Tell is too. Eban's sense takes a downward spiral as he launches efforts to save his friend Beryl from a lust demon that's destroying her. Of course, Tell and Wystan have to gang up on Eban to tease him about the love he's hiding from—love for Beryl. Here's a little look at the not-so-brotherly love going on between the Heckmasters.
Tell flicked the blade Eban's direction. "We think it's mighty fine you want to save humans, but we have to look at this on a bigger scale than the one you went and fell in love with."
Heat like the waves the Pit put off scorched Eban's flesh. "I'm not—for God's sake, it's not about love. It's about common decency."
Wystan was silently studying Tell.
Tell shrugged. "Whatever you say."
"I'll be damned," Wystan muttered. "He doesn't even know."
"I'm not—" Eban glared at them. "She's my friend. I don't care about her past, or how Rosemar got in her head. All I care about is getting her well and then leaving this rotten little hellhole. If that means taking her with me so neither of you can hurt her, so be it."
"It's serious." Tell waved the knife in a circle. "He's completely gone, it just ain't hit him yet."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Eban snapped.
Wystan smirked. "Means you have a thick head."
Tell sobered. "We'd better figure out how to help him. If he realizes he's in love with a woman who's not going to last the year in her current condition, he's liable to go full demon."
"Will you two stop talking about me like I'm not here?"
They know, and have known all along, they'll have to work together in order to stop the demons trying to break free from Hell. One thing, above all else, is no matter who or what threatens them, the only time it's okay to threaten a Heckmaster is when one of them is doing it.

If love can't save them, there will be hell to pay.
Grateful for his mother's human blood that cools the dark fire of his demon father, Eban Heckmaster has set up a medical practice in New Mexico territory. But there's no hope of living a normal life until he rids himself of a seductive demon that's been pursuing him.
Vanquishing it won't be as simple as sharpening his demon-hunting sword. The clever creature is hiding inside his best friend's head, and she has no idea of the havoc she's been wreaking, especially with his body.
Beryl suspects Eban knows why she's been waking up with no memory of where she's been or what she's done, but he's not talking. But when she inevitably learns what he's hiding—or rather, what's hiding inside her—she wonders if her love for him is real, or an illusion created by the demon's lust.
Eban is losing the battle to hold his rising desire in check. There may be only one way to extricate Beryl from the beast entangling her mind. Call upon his demon blood…and offer it as a sacrifice.
Contains a half-human, half-demon doctor who can heal anyone except himself, and a woman who'd blush if she could remember the sensuous torture she's been inflicting on him. Could make you wonder if you should start listening to the voices in your head…

About the Author
A love of reading inspired Allison Merritt to pursue her dream of becoming an author who writes historical, paranormal and fantasy romances, often combining the sub-genres. She lives in a small town in the Ozark Mountains with her husband and dogs. When she's not writing or reading, she hikes in national parks and conservation areas.
Allison graduated from College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri with a B.A. in mass communications that's gathering dust after it was determined that she's better at writing fluff than hard news.
