Faye Hall author of Mistress of Purity @FayeHall79 #RLFblog #historical

Faye Hall author of Mistress of Purity answers five easy questions to help readers get to know her better.

Author Bio

Faye Hall's passion driven, mystery filled books are set in small townships of North Queensland, Australia during the late 1800's.
Each of her novels bring something symbolically Australian to her readers, from Aboriginal herbal remedies, to certain gemstones naturally only found in this part of the world.
Each of her books tell of a passionate connection between the hero and heroine, surrounded and threatened by deceit, scandal, theft and sometimes even murder.
These romances swerve from the traditional romances as Faye aims to give her readers so much more intrigue, whilst also revealing the hidden histories of rural townships of North Queensland.
Faye finds her inspiration from the histories of not only the township she grew up in, but the many surrounding it. She also bases most of her characters on people she has met in her life.
Faye was able to live her own passion driven romance, marrying the love of her life after a whirlwind romance in 2013. Together they are raising their 9 children in a remote country town in northern Queensland, Australia.

What's your favorite down-home family style meal?
Gravy smothered pork with creamy mash potato
Describe the perfect vacation.
There is a place called Whitsunday Sand’s in Bowen near where I live in North Queensland that is just beautiful.  It’s a resort nestled in the rocks between two of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Australia.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
I loved to color in, though I did tend to color in my dolls too bt like I was giving them tattoos.
What kinds of things do you read when you're researching a new book?
Michael Cannon books are always helpful, as too are books from our own Bush Tucker Man Les Hiddens.  But I tend to rely a lot on word of mouth history too, especially from my father and stories from his family.

S. B. Redstone author of Stardust Dreams@sbredstone #RLFblog #romance

S. B. Redstone, author of Stardust Dreams answers five easy questions to help readers get to know him better.

Author Bio

My first careers in life were helping people. As a caseworker for the New York City Department of Social Services, Protective Services, I investigated the horrors of the abuse and neglect of children. After attaining master’s degrees in School Psychology and Clinical Social Work, I continued to help children ins schools and my private practice, along with adolescents and adults. Always striving to improve his understanding of human nature, I researched and then wrote a personal improvement book, Taming Your Inner & Outer Bullies: Confronting Life’s Stressors And Winning. Always having a vivid imagination and a desire to write fiction, I first wrote short stories that were published on the web and in print. My first novel A Sinister Obsession was published by Black Opal Books as well as this current novel, Stardust Dreams. I am a member of the International Thriller Writers Organization and Romance Writers of America.

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
My favorite meal can only be found at a diner where the dinner includes an appetizer, soup, salad, main course, and coffee and dessert. With that said, I begin with pickled herring in cream sauce, matzah ball soup, plain salad with thousand island dressing, bread, stuffed filet of sole with crabmeat, mashed potatoes and gravy, and corn. Lastly, chocolate cream pie, and coffee. Of course I can’t finish it, so most comes homes.
Describe the perfect vacation.
I just came back from it. Three days in Paris and Prague, riverboat down the Danube, which went through Germany, Austria, and Hungary. Great food, beer, sightseeing, and friendship. However, it wasn’t perfect because I didn’t play golf.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
It was a gun. And with that gun I had power. I could be a cowboy, soldier, and policeman. I created so many exciting scenes and stories, which continue to this day. These days kids and violence is frowned upon, but I didn’t become the bad people I was shooting, I was the good guy. And I am still the good guy.
What are your hobbies?
As a retired person it’s bowling, tennis, golf, and fishing. I am an artist and photographer and my paintings and pictures adorn the walls. Cooking is a great love especially making desserts, bread, and soup.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
The theme from Star Trek.

Deven Chandler from His Lost Mate by @kathykulig #RLFblog #PNR

Kathy Kulig shares details about the creation of Deven Chandler in the book His Lost Mate.

About the Book

Title: His Lost Mate
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Author: Kathy Kulig
Book heat level (Based on movie ratings): R
He lost her once hundreds of years ago. Now he must battle a new entity. Will he lose her again forever?
Archaeologist and psychic Lauren Halpern embarks on a journey to uncover an ancient mystery in a sultry and exotic jungle, but everything is getting in her way. Deven Chandler, the drop-dead gorgeous leader of their excavation is a serious distraction she does not need, and she’s desperately trying to guard her heart. But the heated passion between them is undeniable, and they simply cannot find a way to stop the inevitable. Lauren senses the supernatural connection between them holds a secret deeper than the hot sex they’re trying to resist. And Deven, the scientist that he is, simply won’t believe her esoteric beliefs or warnings.
Once they tumble into a sizzling affair the real trouble begins. From the ancient ruins, a ghost of an ancient shaman appears. He lures them deeper to into the jungle where lies the deadliest evil of all. When danger arrives, can Deven learn to trust her and risk everything to save her?

Introducing Deven Chandler

Name: Deven Chandler
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Netherlands
Profession: Archaeologist/Professor
Ethnicity/Species (if not human): Dutch
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Tan, toned, muscular build, 6’, rough hands from years of field work excavating archaeological ruins.
Who is the significant other in your character's life?
Lauren Halpern, a graduate student from another college, is doing field work on his excavation for credits towards her degree. There’s an instant attraction the moment she arrives. The woman is hot, smart and sexy. But he knows he should resist. As a professional, he shouldn’t allow it. There are too many complications with the excavation—local authorities, potential antiquity thieves, rumors of rebels in the jungle. The safety of the team and his project is vital, his love life with a hot student is not priority. And now there are a number of strange, unexplained events occurring around the ruins. Not to mention his ex-fiancée has decided to join the team this time around, and she has her own agenda besides adding to her collection at the museum.
Tell us about this character, please.
Deven is rugged and sexy. A mix of outdoor adventurer and smart professor, a bit like Indiana Jones. Although he was offered a prestigious board position at a large museum, he turned it down to continue traveling and working his projects in the jungle.
How does your hero dress? Archaeologist in the jungle, working on ancient ruins. Jeans or khakis, no suits for this man. (unless he’s teaching at the university) He’s not afraid to get dirty.
Does he scrape by, live comfortably, live extravagantly? He makes a comfortable wage. He works at a university in Boston, has a nice condo there and owns a cottage on Cape Cod. He’s most happy when he’s traveling and digging in ruins.
On what special skills does your character rely? He’s highly skilled at his job, good at working with students and negotiating with foreign authorities. He’s all scientist, but rugged to the bone, devoted and determined to uncover the mystery surrounding his current project. But his flaw is not seeing a supernatural element closing in on the ruins.
What is your character's family like? He’s close to his family. His sister is also an archaeologist, but more sensitive to the supernatural. She has experienced ghosts at the ruins where she has worked. His parents live in the Netherlands. They sold their home to provide college educations for their two children. Over the years, Deven and his sister helped them purchase a home again.
If someone from your character's past showed up, who would he most NOT want it to be, and why? Sylvia, his ex-fiancée. Of course she decides to show up during this semester. He can’t turn her away since her father privately funds most of these projects for the college. He’s president of the board of the museum and part of the deal is acquiring a collection of artifacts for his museum. Deven has a hunch Sylvia has plans to acquire more than artifacts and that makes this trip more of a complication than Deven wants to deal with. Especially since things are heating up between him and Lauren.
What past event causes your character the most fear? In the jungle of a third-world country, anything can happen. Danger can arise, natural and unnatural can threaten lives deep in the jungle. Having local authorities shut down his project is one fear, but having his team come to harm is another.  Antiquity thieves, paramilitary groups, desperate locals, wild life, and more can all be a threat to a secluded archaeological dig. But there’s another threat, a supernatural one…
What is your hero's biggest personal flaw? He and Lauren are connected to the jungle in a supernatural way that he refuses to acknowledge. His seeing-is-believing, analytical mind denies what is obvious. And that could be dangerous for all of them on the team.
What is your hero's breaking point? When Lauren goes missing. Can’t say more without a spoiler.

About Your Writer

Why do you think your writer chose to write about you?
Kathy is a bit of an adventure herself. She’s traveled a bit, explored the Mayan ruins in Tikal, Coba, and Tulum. She spoke to an archaeologist (not me), when she decided to write this story. He even gave her a Mayan artifact. The ruins must have inspired this story. I’m trying to determine what happened to an entire culture that seemed to have vanished hundreds of years ago. She asked the question: What if two Mayan lovers who lived back then were faced with a tragic life event? Could their love survive and they find each other again?
What do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
Hmmm. I’m devoted to my work, okay, I’m a work-aholic, but my job as an archaeologist and professor is important and rewarding. Sometimes I’m stubborn and keep blinders on. I guess I need to be more open to the esoteric world. I’m not comfortable with that. I’d rather go with facts and figures and proven hypotheses.
What other character from your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
Perhaps my sister Sarita who’s working on a project in Greece. Or the two young guys on the team Kyle and Justin.
Why do you think your writer loves to write?
An archaeologist likes to uncover treasures and solve mysteries. It’s a way we can connect with cultures to the past and better understand them.  A writer likes to tell stories. The stories have to be told as they come to her, and she must love to share them with others. It’s her way of connecting with people from the present and also the future.
Is there anything you'd like to say to your writer?
Thanks for writing my story and forcing me to face what I swore I’d never have to. And for helping me find the woman I was meant to be with always—my soul mate, my lover. From one work-aholic to another, get away from your desk and work. Have more fun. When you return refreshed, write what you’re most passionate about. You’ll always have new stories to share with readers and fans.

Handling Cynthia, Romance by @Andrea_Dalling #RLFblog #contemporary

This quick interview includes info about the author, and introduces the story.

About the Author

Andrea Dalling lives in the sexy Southeast, where the summers are hot and the romance hotter. During the day, she's an award-winning technical writer, but at night, she writes steamy stories. She loves to torture her characters but eventually rewards them with a happily-ever-after. Married to her college sweetheart, she's a progressive Christian and an advocate for LGBT rights. When she's not writing, she enjoys gardening at her Raleigh home and scuba diving in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Interview with Andrea Dalling

Why did you write this book?
When my high school reunion was coming up a couple of years ago, I realized it would  be fun to write a series about people hooking up with their high school crush at their five-year reunion. This series is about characters having a second chance to say the things they wish they'd said, to do the things they didn't have the courage to do, and to find love with the one they can't forget.
Handling Cynthia, book 2 in the Second Chances series, was particularly fun because it's about a classic high school "good girl" who, it turns out, is into kink—and she's not shy about asking for what she wants. The hero is a departure from the familiar billionaire Dom: he's a grad school student on a budget, a scientist who's sometimes a bit overconfident and makes mistakes in reading what his sub wants. I like writing about characters who are real people working through real problems that readers can relate to in their own lives, and I hope that's what I've done in this book.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I have eclectic tastes and enjoy a wide variety of genres, from the classics to women's fiction to erotic romance. Right now, my favorites genres are gay and BDSM romance. I like romance that has some "forbidden" aspect to it, something that defies social conventions. At the same time, I have pretty conventional ideas about marriage and monogamy, and those things are reflected in my work as well.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. Not a very original answer, but an honest one! I remember reading that book when I was in high school, reading quotes from it to my mom because I thought it was so hilarious. I love how Elizabeth fights for what she believes in and stands up to social pressure, but then also shows the ability to change and admit her mistakes. And it doesn't hurt that Darcy is the ultimate book boyfriend! A man of principles who hasn't had much opportunity to put those principles into action, who for the first time in his life has to prove that he's worthy of a woman, and rises to the occasion.
What are you working on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
Tempting Jordan, book 3 in the Second Chances series, is a gay romance that's just released. A closeted  bisexual has to choose between his golden-boy reputation and coming out for the man he loves. Next up is Commanding the Billionaire, a femdom book that turns the BDSM billionaire trope on its head. The heroine is a smart-mouthed Domme with trust issues and a troubled past, and the hero a strong, nurturing billionaire sub who helps her heal.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Cynthia Darlington can't forget how Trent Weber kissed her before they left for college—backed up against her Mustang, wrists firm in his grip, her body yielding to his desire. Now, five years later, she seeks him out at their class reunion, newly aware of her submissive nature, and hungering for his dominance. With so much time and distance between them, he's practically a stranger now. Giving herself to Trent could be the culmination of all her hopes—or a teenage fantasy gone horribly wrong.
When Trent watched Cyn walk away after their kiss five years ago, it was enough humiliation to last a lifetime. But with one look at her in that tight black dress, his old desire resurfaces—and with it, the dark fantasies of her bound and submitting to his will. He longs to master this beautiful, confident, and supremely independent woman. If he can't convince her to submit to her deepest cravings before the weekend is out, he could lose his last shot at the one who got away.
Handling Cynthia, a BDSM erotic romance novella, is intended for an adult audience. It contains scenes of flirtation, hot kisses, seductive bowling, a spoiled sub, a demanding Dom, second thoughts, and second chances.

Ella Storm from Crossing the Line by @allyabishop #RLFblog #romance

Ella Storm from Crossing the Line by @allyabishop #RLFblog #romance
Interview with Ella Storm
This interview is designed for your hero or heroine to tell readers about himself or herself. Answer the questions as if the character were talking.

Tell us about yourself, please.
Hi! I’m Ella. I live in Brooklyn, New York with my brother Noah—long story. We own a mystery dinner theater company together, and we’re finally (finally!) getting some higher-end clientele. I’m super nervous and excited about that.
Authors call what you want but cannot have "the conflict" -- what is yours?
Um. Hm. I suck at dating? Seriously. I can’t seem to get myself out there. Lux (my brother’s BFF and my friend as well) and Noah go out on the town. All. The. Time. But the idea of hanging out at bars, going home with someone just because he’s attractive? Not my thing. Totally fine if it’s your thing! But I can’t get into it.
What can you not do (but need to do) during this story?
I can’t figure out who I am. I like structure, deadlines, and schedules. And when I meet Ian…he changes everything.
What inner doubt causes you the most difficulty?
I was almost engaged to a guy in college, and I thought…well, I guess we all think we’ve met “the one,” right? Jonathan was handsome and funny, super smart in that cool way. But I should have known better—he wanted to be the star in any relationship. And he did a number on me. I can’t seem to get past that.
In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most and why.
Wow. Ask a personal question, eh? I guess…I want to believe Ian likes me as much as I like him. But how’s that even possible? Especially once I learn who he is?
Tell us about your significant other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Ian Crane. He’s a lawyer and crazy sexy in that just-a-little-mussed way. We’re leagues apart though, and I’m not sure if this can work.
What would that person say about you?
Ian would say I’m beautiful and brilliant and perfect. :sigh:
What is your family like?
I don’t have much family. My brother and I were raised by our grandparents after our parents were killed in a car accident when we were teens. Other than that, Lux is who we count as family.
What special skills do you rely on?
I write all of our mysteries, organize the events and moving parts, while Noah does the business end of things: invoicing, tracking, etc. I’m also starting to get into scrapbooking (but don’t say anything to Noah about it—I’ll never live it down).
If someone from your past showed up, who would you NOT want it to be, and why?
Jonathan. He hurt something in me that’s still pretty broken.
Why are you happy (or not happy) with the way your story ended?
:grins: I can’t give that away! You have to read to find out. ;)

About the Writer
When you do something effortlessly and people commend you continuously, you have found your gift.
That's what I tell people all the time. And it's true.
I get story. I always have. I started writing when I was eight on a Smith Corona (the electronic kind -- I'm not THAT old). I wrote stories in every spiral notebook I had. Eventually, I graduated to a Mac (yes, I'm one of THOSE people). I imagined new worlds, emotional conflicts, and HEAs while I waited at stoplights or wandered the grocery store. But here's the thing: I didn't just dream it up and write it down -- I critiqued what I read. I knew when ideas were good, and when they stunk. I ran writing groups, judged creative contests, and eventually got two graduate degrees in writing. That's right: I love it that much.
So here I am, years later, writing kickass heroines and devastating good guys, along with some mystery and vampires thrown in (I promise: THEY'RE COMING). And what's really cool? I do what I love. Wanna write a success story for your life: I promise you, that's it. Do what you love. And hopefully, you can make a living at it too. That's the golden ticket, Charlie.
And chocolate doesn't hurt, either...

What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
When I originally wrote Inside the Lines, I had no intention of writing a book about Ella and Noah. When readers asked to learn more about the Storm siblings, I figured, what the heck? But when I sat down to write the book, I had no idea what Ella’s story was. Enter creative writing and outlining. :) Thankfully, Ella was perfectly content to do what she wanted, whether or not I liked it. And Noah’s always a little contrary.
Why did you choose this character for the interview today?
Ella’s the main female lead in Crossing the Line. What I personally like about Ella is that she’s very sweet—everyone loves Ella. But she’s not a pushover. Even when things go wrong in her life, she may not want to deal with them, but she does. And she’s perfectly capable of taking care of herself, with or without a man.
When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
Ella’s pretty sturdy—and I knew that. But she also has a breaking point, like everyone else. Seeing her and Noah at odds wasn’t what I expected, but I think you get a better feel for why Ella has evolved the way she has. And hopefully, it offers a clue to what Noah’s hangups are for his future story.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
Crossing the Line is a prequel to Inside the Lines, the first book of the Without a Trace series, which follows Lux and her sisters. The third book in the series, Tracing the Line, will be released in August 2015.
What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven't tried yet?
I’m currently working on two paranormal series, so we’ll see how those pan out. :)
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
I never ever thought I’d write romance. My background is in literary writing, and I’ve worked in the publishing field and edited literary works for years now. But when an opportunity arose to write steamy romance, I couldn’t resist the challenge. And I’ve had a blast.
Why should readers who haven't picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
Oo, good question! Let’s see.
1. My focus for every book is to make sure the characters have authentic problems that real people have, that they have flaws that make them human, and that I honor the romance genre with the content. So if you enjoy romance and you like to feel as though the characters you reach could be friends of yours, then this book is for you.
2. I write steamy romance…so you won’t have to look far for some heat in any book I write. ;)
3. I explore something different with each book, including mental illness, the realities of kinky sensuality, and diverse characters with different backgrounds. This book’s a great start to see if you’ll enjoy my style.
Is there anything you'd like to say to your readers?
Thank you so much for reading, and for giving me the encouragement to continue the series! I’ve had a blast hearing your feedback, and I appreciate your willingness to take a chance on my series. Without you, authors have no purpose—so thank you for loving the written word. <3
About the Book
Title Crossing the Line
Genre Erotic romance
Author Ally Bishop

I’ve never believed in love at first sight, which is probably why I write mysteries, and not romances, for a living. Besides, I’m too focused on expanding Elementary, a mystery dinner party business I own with my brother Noah. I don’t have time for romance.
When the handsome and successful Ian Crane books our services, I can barely keep my wits about me. He’s setting fire to all my rules, and I can’t resist his flames. I don’t recognize the woman I’m becoming, but I don’t want to go back to who I was.
There’s a part of me that can’t help wondering, what if he’s too good to be true? Because if he is, my heart will be nothing more than ashes.
Heat rating: Toasty warm, with plenty of flames

#amreading Of the Cowboy’s Own Accord a new #Western by @maryjdressel #RLFblog

This quick interview includes info about the author, and introduces the story.

About the Author

Early days of reading romance novels and women's fiction laid the groundwork for Mary to take up the pen and write her own memorable love stories where love always wins. Her novels are emotional and compelling, and characters don't have an easy time getting what they want, but their reward is sexy and sweet. In a lighter style Mary prefers to write more romantic and sensual love stories. She loves to write stories with strong family ties, lasting friendships, gentlemen heroes with a touch of bad, and feisty women who know how to handle them.
Her home is in the Great Lake Basin area in the U.S.A. Two grown sons and an Australian Shepherd fur-baby dog complete her family. Mary loves communicating with readers and friends. She also has a mailing list for readers who want to be notified of new releases and important book updates. Visit her website for more information.

Interview with Mary J. McCoy-Dressel

Why did you write this book?
Dane Carlson wouldn’t be quiet until he got his own story. Of the Cowboy’s Own Accord is about the third and youngest brother in my Double Dutch Ranch Series: Love at First Sight. Since this is a series, I wanted each brother to have their own book. Dane’s story definitely had to be told.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I like reading a variety of contemporary romance genres—romantic suspense, military, and an occasional erotic romance, but my favorite is contemporary western romance. Love those cowboys.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Darn! Even picking one of my own would be difficult. I began reading romance novels with Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and Rosemary Rogers. Yes, way back then. In truth, I’ve read and enjoyed too many books to choose just one favorite character. I call most of them my favorite by time I get to the end of a book.
What are you working on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
Due to being sick recently and preparing to move, I’m supposed to be taking a break, but I began two books that I know readers are waiting for. The first is the fifth book in the Double Dutch Ranch Series, and the other is book three in the Bull Rider Series. When life mellows out, I’ll dedicate my time to one of those books instead of trying to work on both at the same time. More than likely, book three in the Bull Rider Series will be that book. If only my characters from the ranch will leave me alone long enough. This is doubtful.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Of the Cowboy’s Own Accord is the fourth book in this sensual western romance series and numbered three. How can it be number three when this is the fourth book? I wrote a mid-length novel numbered 1.5 in the series—a follow-up to book one.
Blurb:
Army Ranger Dane Carlson never means to fall in love before leaving for another tour of duty, but unexpectedly, he does. While deployed, he finds himself being sent home early to the family ranch to make a heartrending decision. Little does he know he isn’t the only one making decisions. His first priority is to rekindle the flame after losing communication with Gracelyn Clark. The woman who owns his heart and has since the moment their gaze connects. But now, nothing is the same as when they met.
The first round of news is surprise enough, yet Gracelyn continues to release shocking information detrimental to their future. Can they make it work after so few days together seven months ago? Adjusting to many new things in his life isn’t easy as it is, so to pull himself back to the man he’s become, could be the biggest test of all—in order to protect his own.
Challenges abound even as Dane and Gracelyn come to terms with the decisions they’ve made. Whatever tomorrow brings, their only choice is acceptance—to take one day at a time and face life as it comes.

About the Author

I write medieval romance novels full of passion and intrigue set in 11th and 12th century Ireland, Scotland, and England.
Although all my works are fiction, I often like to incorporate authentic places, events, and people to increase the reader’s enjoyment. One of the more valuable lessons I have learned as a writer is the importance of using real history with the flair of artistic license. You’ll discover a world of fiction wrapped around historical people and events!
I live in New England with my husband, two cats and a yellow Labrador named Caledonia.

Gabriel Church - Rubble and the Wreckage @roddclark #RLFblog #MM

Rodd Clark shares the creation Gabriel Church from the book Rubble and the Wreckage.

About the Book

Title Rubble and the Wreckage
Genre M/M Romantic Thriller
Author Rodd Clark
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Gabriel Church knows you can't take a life without first understanding just how feeble life is, how tentative and weak it stands alone. If you desire murder, you hold a life in your hand. Whether you release it to grant life or grip tighter to end it, it is at your command and discretion. Gabriel is a serial killer with a story he wants told.
Christian Maxwell studied abnormal psychology in college but chose instead to focus on a career in writing. His background comes in handy when he thinks of writing about a serial killer. He can't think of anyone more qualified to write the story of Gabriel Lee Church, and do so in the murderer's own words. It's been done before, but never with a killer who has yet to be captured or convicted.
There was never anything more than a gentleman's understanding between the two men that Christian would record Gabriel's life story. The killer did not ask for his complicity in any crimes, nor did he ever ask for his silence. Christian's interest in the man, though, is fast becoming something more than academic. When the writer and his subject become unexpected friends and then lovers, the question remains: What is Gabriel's endgame . . . and why does he want his story told?

Introducing Gabriel Church

Name: Gabriel Church
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Kentucky
Profession: Drifter
Ethnicity/Species (if not human): White
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Toned, strong, big.
Who is the significant other in your character's life?
Christian Maxwell
Tell us about this character, please.
Educated, attractive erudite man in mid-thirties; closeted gay when the story begins but desperate to find someone he trusts who can break the confines of his life.
How does your hero dress?
Gabriel Church is the anti-hero of the series and dresses rough and casual. It is his body that attracts not the denims and flannel and tee-shirts he is accustomed to wearing.
If you could only hear this character's voice (but not see him) what characteristic would identify him?
Church is a dichotomy because he appears red-neck illiterate from the outside, but in truth has his deep profound thoughts and belief-structure. His voice is masculine without being wordy, but his control is always sensed and displayed by the few sentences he blurts out. His speech illustrates a subtle wisdom with a serious knife-like edge, because after-all, he has seen and done it all during his lifetime.
How educated is this character?
Gabe is street smart but even with his high school education he shows he is envious of Christian's brain and intellect. He considers the man an enigma and struggles with the knowledge that his life could have turned out very differently had he been given the same chances at a college education. One that Christian has taken for granted.
Is the character book-smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
Christian as a protagonist is trained and educated with a background that gives him the leg-up over his peers, where Church is self-taught and possesses than skill of reading people and sizing up his competition.
Does he scrape by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
Gabriel survived only by his wits, and in a place where a bed with clean sheets is considered a luxury.
What is your character's viewpoint on wealth?
Christian Maxwell was raised with financial comfort and due to his degree always assumed his life would run according to plan. He is the exact opposite of Gabriel Church who has never known wealth and comfort but sees the futility in such pursuits, namely because he has seen the others he has killed die without fanfare and without their protection of wealth or reputation. The rat-race of others, as Church has called it, it something fragile and easily destroyed in his perception. He holds no interest in obtaining any financial freedom, nor does he expect to ever find it.
On what special skills does your character rely?
Gabe relies on his ability to read others and spot their weaknesses; it may be why he is so fascinated with Chris Maxwell, his polar opposite. Christian doesn't seem to possess that skill at all, and this creates a symbiotic relationship of Gabe wanting to protect his lover from the dangers he sees so clearly.
Are any of his skills a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
If you were to ask Church that question in private he would easily say it was his ability to fuck, and fuck well. He would smile his twisted grin and flash his pearly whites, but in truth the reality was that he considered himself a survivor, regardless of the odds. He lives his life without assistance, makes no apologies and is very much the man's man, counts only on his own abilities to get from point A to point B.
What kinds of things does your character always carry (in pockets or purse)?
Church carries only a pocketknife and loose change, rarely more than that.
What is your character's family like?
Church has a dismal past and walked away from his family long ago. Whereas Christian loves his family but doesn't seem to express pride in them or their accomplishments. Both men have slipped from the confines of family, but for very different reasons and with very different outcomes.
Is he close to family?
Christian is close to his family, but can go weeks without speaking to them. Church has not spoken to anyone in his family since he left as a young adult. But for him in particular, the ghosts of his childhood haunt him more regularly than he would care to admit.
Does he have children?
No.
Is your character involved in his community?
No.
How well does he know the neighbors?
Not really an option for a man on the run from the law.
Does this character see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
Church can only see in shades of gray. His beliefs seem rigid and morally unyielding, but he is plagued by every decision he makes. Those decisions become questionable only after meeting someone new that he forms a connection with, though he can't fully fathom that at the time.

About Your Writer

Why do you think your writer chose to write about you?
"I think he likes the bad boys more than he's willing to admit."
What do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
"I wanted my story told, but he gave too much away, I don't like that others can see all the shit I've done, particularly fucking a man."
What other character from your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
"My sister, he didn't spend much time on her story, but then again I think he believed it might make me sad, but he'd be wrong."
Why do you think your writer loves to write?
"I have a story, good as any others I suppose…"
Is there anything you'd like to say to your writer?
"Yeah, time to back the fuck off me. Write about someone else for a change!"
