The Awakening Blog Tour : Tips on Editing #RLFblog #AmWriting #MFRWauthor

An editor is a crucial piece of the publishing puzzle and your relationship can make or break a project. Don't make the same mistakes I did.
The Awakening Blog Tour : Tips on Editing
There is something to be said about the rush you get when you finally type the words "THE END" into a manuscript. You have put your heart and soul into the page and for me, it was like I finally reached the top of a mountain. Little did I know it was just the first plateau.
I had been fortunate by this time to have worked with some of the best self-publishing authors in the business and knew that editing was going to be a beast. I was a first time author for goodness sake. I thought it would be perfect to team up with a good friend who wanted to get into editing. This played out like a bad horror movie where everyone could see the monster behind the curtain but you.
I first want to go on record that the editor in question is an amazing editor. She really did help polish The Awakening into what it is today. Also, had I continued working with her it would probably be 1,000 times better. Yet, I know it would have lost the harried style that I was truly going for. We ultimately parted ways amicably and I shelved my book for four years because I lost all confidence in the project.
Finally, I couldn't stand seeing all the Facebook Memories showing me a project that I truly loved. I went through and got the story edited and finally pushed publish on it. I figure that it was never going to win a Pulitzer, but it is a fun addition to vampire lore that is worth telling.
So what advice do I have for someone who is finishing up their novel?
Do your research! Talk to your editor about what they like to read and do a first chapter edit. It gives both of you the opportunity to see if you want to work together.
Remember that as a self-published author, you are the boss. Don't let anyone discourage you from publishing if that is what you want to do.
The editor is ultimately out to create the best version of the story. If you have done your research and know that they are a good fit, then trust what they are saying.

The Awakening by JP Adkins

What would you do if you found out you were genetically a Vampire? Would you embrace it or run? I have found that power is a strange thing - sometimes it pulls you into places you never knew you would go. I have done things that most have only dreamed of; ran through walls, jumped off buildings but it all seems like folly.
I am what happens when genetics mutate, when the species collide, when the beauty can't resist the beast. I can't infect with my kiss, but I can awaken with my seed but only if they are a mutation such as I.

Prejudice: A Problem as Old as Time @LMBrownAuthor #RLFblog #LGBT

There is one theme that is common in many gay romance stories, and that is the prejudices against homosexual people and how they deal with the barriers caused by prejudices.
As though who have read earlier books in my series will already know, while same-sex relations were forbidden for the merpeople of Atlantis it wasn’t due to any religious reason, but rather because the race is close to extinction, and the mating rituals imposed by the rulers of the sunken city of Atlantis were introduced to try to prevent them from dying out entirely.
That doesn’t mean that prejudices are going to be completely absent from the series and in Shifting Currents the divisions between the merpeople and the Atlanteans who once inhabited the city are thrown into the limelight.
In this post I am going to go into a bit of the historical background as to how the issues between merfolk and the human Atlanteans came about.
In the history of my world Atlantis didn’t just vanish below the ocean in some cataclysmic event or devastating storm. Instead, it was deliberately hidden on the sea floor by the Atlantean gods in an attempt to save the humans who worshiped them from the coming war of other ancient peoples. The Atlanteans were gifted with the power to survive at the great depths and continued to live in the city that had been their home for so many years.
The merpeople, who lived in the waters around Atlantis, welcomed the Atlanteans and helped teach them to farm the fruits of the ocean and thrive in the water, just as they did.
Unfortunately, when two such vastly different races are thrown together in close quarters, there will always be issues. The two communities, while living in the same waters, never fully integrated, and there were plenty of Atlanteans who thought the merpeople shouldn’t live in Atlantis. Atlantis for the Atlanteans became the common cry from those who saw the merpeople not as friendly allies, but as half-animal creatures to be looked down upon and driven out of the sacred city of Atlantis.
Two races, both seeing their claim on the land/waters as equally valid, were going to come to blows sooner or later.
Delwyn, a merman with the power to see into the past, and Fabian, an Atlantean living hundreds of years before Delwyn was born, are going to have to overcome these prejudices if they intend to make a life together.

Shifting Currents by LM Brown

Can a merman and an Atlantean, separated by centuries and prejudices, find love together?
Merman Delwyn is an Oracle of the past. He loves nothing better than observing the comings and goings of those who lived centuries before he was born. His favorite time period to visit is when both Atlantean and mer inhabited the sunken city of Atlantis, and his guilty pleasure is watching lovers come together in passion. Secure in the knowledge that no one can see him when he’s viewing the past, nothing can prepare Delwyn for the moment Fabian, an Atlantean living in the past, speaks to him.
Fabian is a man with divided loyalties. The demi-god son of the Goddess of Sea Creatures has sworn to serve the Goddess of Prophecy as her Oracle of the present. His unique status gives him the power to see anything in the present, including the mysterious merman voyeur from the distant future.
Despite the centuries that separate them, Delwyn and Fabian find they have a lot in common and quickly form a friendship that both hope one day will become something more. But before they can be together in the present, Delwyn and Fabian must unravel the mysteries of the past.
Only time will tell if the truth about the long-since vanished Atlanteans will bring them together or tear them apart, as the battle for the sunken city of Atlantis begins.

Meet Tarrant Cooper from Drakon's Prey @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #PNR

Welcome Tarrant Cooper from Drakon's Prey, a new paranormal romance.
Genre Paranormal Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Valeriya Azarov turned her back on the family business to write and illustrate children's books. But with a sister who leads the Knights of the Dragon, it's impossible to get away from the secret society whose mission is to destroy and enslave dragons. When information falls into her hands along with the opportunity to save at least one of the ancient creatures, she can't turn away any longer.
When a woman moves into the cabin above Tarrant Cooper's secret underground lair, he's both suspicious and intrigued. He hasn't lasted four thousand years being careless, so when he suspects her of being a part of the Knights, the plan is to kidnap her and find out how much the organization knows about him and his brothers.
He's drawn to Valeriya, but trusting her could get him killed. Even if she's a pawn in the war between drakons and Knights, giving her his heart would mean forever.

Introducing Tarrant Cooper

Age: 4000 years, give or take a few
Gender: male
Birthplace: A small village in the Middle East that has long since gone to dust.
Profession: I basically control the airwaves.
Ethnicity/ Species (for scifi/fantasy characters): I'm a drakon, the son of a dragon and a human woman.
Please provide a physical description of yourself.
In my human form, I'm 6'8" with short black hair and blue eyes. I have a tattoo that covers the entire left side of my body from my neck to my ankles. It's a birthmark and is a swirling pattern that is silver and outlined in the same blue as my eyes.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a drakon. That means I don't like to talk about myself. The less people who know about my kind, the better.
Who is the significant other in your life?
My Valeriya. She's one of a kind and she's mine. *growls possessively*
Are you book-smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
I'm self-taught and widely-experienced. *laughs* I've been around for a very, very long time. I've watched mankind go from mostly illiterate to everyone having books and information at their fingertips. From primate communication to now having a good chunk of the population walking around with a cell phone stuck against their ear.
Do you get by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
I'm comfortable in my below-ground lair. It has everything I need. My biggest expense is my computer equipment. Money doesn't mean much to me. I have more than enough for a hundred lifetimes. And I can always make more.
Are you close to family?
I'm close to my brothers. There isn't anything I wouldn't do or no one I wouldn't kill to protect them. And now I have my Valeriya. She's everything to me.
How well do you know your neighbors?
*snorts* I don't have neighbors. I live in an underground bunker in the middle of nowhere. And that's the way I like it.
What secrets do you know about people around you that you do NOT share?
Nothing is a secret from me. Information is my passion, my life's blood. If it's out there, I can find it. There is nowhere I can't go online. I mostly don't care what people do as long as they leave me and mine alone. If they don't...
What are your biggest hopes and dreams?
I want to destroy the Knights of the Dragon and live in peace with Valeriya. The Knights have been hunting my kind for centuries and we've mostly left them alone. This time, they've gone too far and I'm taking the hunt to them.

Danger in the Stars @vscotttheauthor #RLFblog #SFR

Welcome Veronica Scott author of Danger in the Stars, a new scifi romance.
Why did you write this book?
When I was writing Star Cruise: Stowaway for the 'Pets In Space' anthology last year, I had the premise of an empathic alien priestess stolen from her own world and sold to an interstellar crime syndicate, forced to do their bidding. In that novella, the story was about the woman's escape with the help of my ship's crew and two pets. When I finished writing that one, I started thinking about a sister, also held as a prisoner, but not lucky enough to escape. How would it be for her, to be in the midst of the criminal operations, trying to stay true to her own values, but forced to commit crimes? Who would help her? Conor, the hero, came into my head and said, "I will." He's a comple man of many secrets, but no spoilers from me!
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love science fiction romance, but I read voraciously, everything from Regency romances to romantic suspense with Navy SEALs.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
I love Nalini Singh's Arrows in her Psy-Changeling series, and of that group, Judd is still my favorite.
What are you working on at the moment?
I've got two things going on – a paranormal novel set in ancient Egypt and a new scifi romance. I don't usually try to juggle telling two stories at once but the Egyptian tale came to me one night completely plotted and so I figured I'd better write it!
What books will we see from you in coming months?
In May I'll be releasing a volume of three scifi romance stories, which were previously only available in anthologies, and then of course the two new books I talked about in the previous question will come out in the summer.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Genre Science fiction romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Miriell, a powerful empathic priestess, has been kidnapped from her own primitive planet along with a number of her people, and sold to the evil Amarotu Combine, largest organized crime syndicate in the Sectors. When she and her handler are sent to use her power to commit an assassination, she must leave behind her own sister as hostage to ensure her compliance. Miriell cannot ask for aid without endangering herself and others.
Despite his best efforts, Combine enforcer Conor Stewart is entranced by Miriell, and helps her evade the worst of brutal treatment from the rest of the mob. But Conor must keep his distance, before the lovely empath learns that he has secrets of his own–secrets that could get them both killed.
The situation becomes dire when Conor and Miriell come to the attention of both the Combine overlords and the deadly Mawreg, aliens who threaten the Sectors. Can she save herself and the Mawreg's next victims? And will Conor help her, or remain loyal to his evil bosses?

Yearn For You @SayaraStClair #RLFblog #Romance

Welcome Sayara St Clair author of Yearn For You, a new Erotic Romance.
Why did you write this book?
While I was writing Hurt Me, Heal Me (the first book in the Dante's Purgatory Series), BDSM club owner, Dante Caffarelli, began speaking to me. He was loud and he was persistent. He's a Dom, so he tends towards bossiness. He'd arrive at about 4:30-5:00 am and wake me up with fantastic bits of dialogue. And no matter how little sleep you've had, Dante turning up in your bedroom in the morning is not something to be ignored.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Romance. And within that broad genre, I love paranormal—vampires, demons or angels only. I'm not interested in things like wood sprites or shapeshifting centipedes. I also like reading erotic romance and historical romance. If someone gave me a story about a Vampire-demon hybrid Dom living in the 1800's, I'd be so happy. Put him a kilt, stick him on a horse and have him galloping about over the moors, and I'd be in heaven.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
That's a really hard one for me. There are so many characters I've come across who have made an impression on me. Because I can't decide, I might go with my first fictional love, Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre. Enigmatic, tortured and terribly flawed...need I continue?
What are you working on at the moment?
Right now, I'm working on Master Me, which is book three in the Dante's Purgatory series. The story is about Xavier—the biggest, baddest guy in the club—and Trixie—the diminutive, yet feisty sub, who's decided she'd rather be on the other end of the whip. Trixie likes to live on the edge. I'll give you one guess who she wants to dominate.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Firstly it will be Master Me. Following that, I plan to release the first book in my paranormal romance series. That is...unless any more Doms start busting into my bedroom at ungodly hours!
Please tell us about your latest book.

Dante has been Erica's savior since she was a child, protecting her from others, wiping her tears, making her feel worthy. Until, as the years passed, she began to feel something new...and a girl's crush became a young woman's unyielding passion. Though she ran away to Paris after Dante unknowingly broke her heart, even distance couldn't quell Erica's desire. Because she knows Dante well, knows what he's capable of doing for a woman...and knows her submissive needs match Dante's deep dominance perfectly.
Dante's in trouble. For years he's kept his burning ache for his best friend's sister firmly in check. But now Erica's back in the States, more gorgeous than ever. Worse, she wants to learn about BDSM—and she's determined to have Dante as a teacher. He won't let her near the club he co-owns with her brother—Chris would kill him—but he'll "train" her at home. When he's done, Erica will want nothing to do with the lifestyle. And hopefully her crush on Dante will be diminished...for both their sakes.
But Erica proves to be far more resilient that he'd ever dreamed, and Dante's plan backfires in spectacular fashion, driving her straight into the clutches of someone far worse than another Dom. Someone dangerous, someone from his past...who's going to make Erica pay for Dante's sins.

Rachael Riley is back home in Rocky Harbor, but she’s not the same woman she once was...
After being rescued from an abusive relationship, Rachael is nothing more than a shadow of her true self. The only place she manages to find some degree of comfort is in the kitchen, hiding behind her apron as she continues to shut everyone out. Her foster sister knows that the real Rachael has been broken and reaches out by signing her up for self-defense classes with the hope of getting her outgoing, confident and nosey older sister back.
Jake Morgan has done more than his time and is finally free of his past...
Teaching self-defense is Jake’s way of giving back, compensating for what has been taken away from him years ago. He’s well aware that most women in his class have a backstory, and avoids getting emotionally involved by keeping his distance—until a beautiful, blue-eyed woman walks in. Jake is instantly drawn to Rachael and sees the inner confidence she tries to hide behind her blonde bangs and hunched shoulders.
Wanting to know the story hidden behind those blue eyes, Jake sets out to break down every barrier Rachael has built...
As Jake helps Rachael find the strength she once had, a secret of his past is revealed and threatens to ruin the safety they have found in each other. There’s more connecting them than just their mutual attraction. Once their pasts finally collide, revealing a devastating truth, Jake’s feelings and commitment toward Rachael is put to the ultimate test.

Dark Thoughts by Cynthia Sax @CynthiaSax #RLFblog #SciFi #Romance

Welcome Cynthia Sax author of Dark Thoughts, a new SciFi Romance.
Why did you write this book?
When I first met Kralj, the hero of Dark Thoughts, during Chasing Mayhem, I knew I had to write his story. Kralj is Ruler of the Refuge, a settlement that many of the most violent beings in the universe call home. He can read minds, can control beings with his thoughts and has a very dark beast-like side of him. He EATS his enemies. Yeah, he goes there.
I only write romance so, of course, that got me thinking, "What type of female would love a male like that?" Dita, a pint-sized assassin, is as unique as Kralj is. She is as strong as he is yet has a cheerfulness that offsets his grim demeanor.
Note: Dark Thoughts is a standalone. It is not necessary to read Chasing Mayhem first.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love all sorts of romance. Give me a happy romantic ending! I gobble that up. I read everything from sexy Regency Dukes to tormented half man, half machine cyborg warriors.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
In the SciFi Romance space, I really like Ral, the Zorn warrior in Laurann Dohner's Ral's Woman. That was my first Laurann Dohner story and I loved it. Ral is an awesome beastly hero. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite romance premise. If there's beast in the book description, the writer has me.
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm writing the follow up story to Dark Thoughts (releasing in July). The hero will be Orol, Kralj's winged second-in-command. He has been given a solo mission. His heroine, of course, isn't cooperating with that mission. (grins) It is never easy for our heroes, is it?
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Ghost Of A Machine, my next standalone cyborg romance, will be releasing in May. He's a severely damaged hero and has earned his happy ever after.
The next story in the Dark Thoughts series will be releasing in July.
Please tell us about your latest book.
Genre Sci Fi Romance

Can love redeem a monster?
The Refuge is home to some of the most violent beings in the universe. Kralj, its leader, reigns over the remote outpost with terrifying ease, ruthlessly squashing any rumors of rebellion, killing anyone who breaks his rules. Primitive, deadly, powerful, he's a monster, scarred both on his face and his soul. He has never met a being he couldn't control.
Until he meets her.
Dita has one mission—to kill the three targets claiming sanctuary within the Refuge. Or so she claims. For the first time in his long lifespan, Kralj isn't certain of another being's intentions. The tiny assassin is immune to his powers, her thoughts unreadable. He can't predict her movements, can't control her, can't stop wanting her.
Dita is rare, as unique as he is, and, to keep the residents of the Refuge safe, Kralj will have to kill her. But first, he'll touch her, taste her, show her how passionate the beast inside him can be.
Dark Thoughts is a STAND-ALONE SciFi Romance.
The hero might be tall, dark, and scarred but don't be fooled by his appearance.
He's truly a monster.
This story is not for readers with delicate sensibilities.

The Pieces of Us Jennifer Loring @JenniferTLoring #RLFblog #contemporary #sportsromance

Welcome Jennifer Loring author of The Pieces of Us (The Firebird Trilogy Book 3), a new contemporary sports romance.
Why did you write this book?
From the time I finished Firebird, I knew Alex's story was going to be a trilogy; I just wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to end the journey of a character that has become so dear to me. I tossed around a couple of ideas but decided to go with the one I hoped readers were least likely to expect. Alex gets his HEA, but not in the way you might think. And while some readers might not like it, it's where the story needed to go.
What is your favorite genre to read?
It will probably always be horror, though I do read some romance (mostly PNR and some historical). I also love non-fiction.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Two are characters I've loved since I was a teenager—Irrylath from The Darkangel Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce and Zach from Poppy Z. Brite's Drawing Blood. I also adore Constantine from Robin McKinley's Sunshine. Two out of three are vampires, so I guess that says a lot about me. J
What are you working on at the moment?
A paranormal romance novella for After Glows Publishing and an outline for a narrative game/interactive novel. I wasn't going to work on a novel-length project again until 2018, but I couldn't resist the urge to re-start the PNR novel I initially researched and outlined over a year ago. The plot finally came together after a few false starts, and I'm excited about writing it again.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
April brings the fairy tale anthology Forest Seclusion, featuring my transgender romantic fantasy story "If Only You Were Someone Else," from Supposed Crimes, and the first Erotik√≥s anthology—containing two of my erotic horror short stories—from DarkFuse. In May, I'll be in a contemporary romance anthology called Craving: Bad with a new Firebird short story, and in August, I'll appear in Crystal Lake Publishing's Tales from the Lake vol. 4. In October, I'll have a novella in After Glows Publishing's Hidden Demons paranormal romance anthology. I still have quite a few short stories, novellas, and novelettes submitted to various publishers, so hopefully this list will be updating soon!
Please tell us about your latest book.

Aleksandr Volynsky thinks he's experienced the worst life can throw at him, until the most devastating loss leaves him questioning everything…
One year later, Alex and his daughter, Anya, are still picking up the pieces. In the process, he realizes how far apart their mutual grief has driven them and how lonely he has become—especially when the Buffalo Gladiators' beautiful anthemist, Hannah Kent, finally introduces herself.
Anya Volynsky is a high-school senior with plans—her father's plans—to become the first woman on a professional hockey team's starting roster…
But Anya is toying with the idea of staying in Buffalo and caring for her father rather than accept a scholarship to play hockey at Boston College. Her decision becomes even more difficult when she meets her school's new athletic trainer, Lucas Donovan. Their experience with similar losses draws them together, and soon their friendship blossoms into a forbidden love that neither of them expected.
With lives torn apart by sorrow, Alex and Anya try to restore their bond, but it's not that easy…
Alex's attraction to Hannah keeps growing stronger, and he needs to decide if he's ready to overcome his pain—but also if he's willing to do it without Anya's approval. Anya, on the other hand, is headed for trouble, and while Alex tries to do the right thing in order to protect her, all he manages to do is push her further away.
Can Alex and Anya find the courage to pick up the broken pieces of their lives, or will the heartache of the past ruin their chances at finding happiness again?
