Devil in Texas: Sexy Stud in Spurs @AdriennedeWolfe #RLFblog #amreading

This quick interview includes info about the author, and introduces the story.

About the Author

Adrienne deWolfe is the #1 bestselling, award-winning author of action-packed Historical Romances, where feisty Heroines buck the conventions and true Heroes must be wickedly funny.  Her greatest inspiration is nature, and the scene-stealers in her novels are often animal pranksters. Among her 48 writing awards, Adrienne has earned the Best Historical Romance of the Year. When she’s not writing, she’s mentoring aspiring authors, several of whom have become #1 bestsellers on Amazon. Interview with Adrienne deWolfe

Why did you write this book?
William Cassidy wasn’t supposed to be hero material.  He was a gunslinger, wanted by every lawman in the West.  When I first envisioned my heroine, a pistol-packing Pinkerton with fiery hair and an even hotter temper, I planned to make “Coyote Cass” the villain of her story.  But Cass wasn’t happy with my plot to bury him at Boot Hill.
“Aw, c’mon, Wolfie,” he kept whispering in my ear, “I’m not so bad.  I’m funny!  How many villains do you know, who ride get-away horses named Jelli and Pancake?  And what about that time I poured moonshine into my sweetheart’s pie, so she could win the county bake-off?  I’m adorable!  Give me a book and a woman of my own!”
The next thing I knew, I was doing something crazy:  rewriting the ebook version of a previously published paperback, so I could star Cass and Sadie in their own series of Western Whodunits, Lady Law & The Gunslinger.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Anything that explores the mystical side of nature. Right now, four Ted Andrews books are stacked on my desk. Ted wrote about the symbolism of plants and animals to Native Americans. His book, Animal Speak, stokes my imagination because I love to create “furry pranksters” as humor devices. For instance, in Devil in Texas, a rascally raccoon, named Vanderbilt Varmint, steals a lot more than scenes!
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
That’s a tough call. I love witty, rapid-fire dialogue that makes me laugh. The first 2 characters who come to mind are Raistlin Majere (evil mage) and Tasselhoff Burrfoot (happy-go-lucky Kender / Halfling) from the Dragonlance Series.  I read those books many, many years ago, and yet today, when I picture those two characters “sparring” with words, I have to smile. When I write, I want to create characters that are just as memorable to my readers.
What are you working on at the moment, and what will we see from you in coming months?
I just completed Dance to the Devil’s Tune, the sequel to Devil in Texas.  Now I’m trying to decide where to set Devil Plays with Fire (Book 3 in Lady Law & The Gunslinger.) I was thinking of throwing a dart at a map – because that worked so well for Book 1. Devil in Texas is set primarily in Lampasas. It’s a small town about 90 miles north of Austin (where I live.) Lampasas is rich in Wild West history and yet, until I threw my dart, I’d never heard of Lampasas, much less its reputation as the 19th Century "Saratoga of the South!"
Please tell us about your latest book.
Pinkerton Agent Sadie Michelson poses as a casino singer to investigate a Texas Senator. Before she can cozy up to her quarry, she must get past his bodyguard, William Cassidy, her long-lost lover.
An outlaw seeking redemption, Cass was lured to Texas by the promise of a Ranger badge. But he hasn’t forgotten the sassy siren, who toyed with his heart. When Sadie proposes a truce, Cass suspects she’s hiding something.
With assassins dogging their heels, Cass and Sadie uncover a murder conspiracy in the senate.  To stay alive, they must do the one thing they’re dead set against: trust each other.

Werewolves and Cloaked by @TFWalsh #RLFblog #paranormal

Today's featured book is Cloaked by T.F. Walsh.

Thanks for having me on your blog☺
What is it about werewolves that make them such great characters for novels? Traditionally stories of werewolves were used to inspire fear, but they have since been romanticised in popular culture. In either manifestation they are popular material for audiences. Their Jekyll and Hyde nature is probably a key to their fascination, historically and more recently.
From a fear aspect, the hidden nature of the werewolf is what caused most concern.  Anyone could be a werewolf hiding in his or her human guise. Whether a person's lycanthropy is beyond their control, or whether they maintain their control, when they change, they are equally frightening.
Modern werewolves are much less about fear, and their dual nature has become much more alluring. In present day, where everything we do seems to be public knowledge, having a secret darker side is very appealing. Again, the idea that anyone meet might be a wolf in disguise also titillates the imagination. So anyone who has a mundane life could have a chance to break all the rules, go wild and then return to their normal the next day.
Whether scary or sexy, or a bit of both, werewolves have a wide appeal. There are many reasons for this, but their veiled dual personality is at the core of this for many people.
What do werewolves symbolize for you?
